Naxos, one of the most beautiful Greek islands, is located in the centre of the Aegean Sea. Easily accessible from Athens by ferry and plane, Naxos has developed a lot over the last years as a lovely tourist destination, however it hasn’t lost a bit of its authenticity and traditional character. The crystal beaches, the mountainous villages, the ancient sites and the green landscape attract many visitors every summer. The most developed part of Naxos is the western coast and most facilities are found there.
Plaka, Agios Prokopios, Agios Georgios, Marangas and Orkos are the most popular beaches, while Mikri Vigla is the best windsurfing spot on the island. Visitors should also not miss the small villages in the inland, all in traditional architecture and offering great view to the surrounding region. On the way, many ancient sites will be encountered, such as two giant Kouros statues that lay on the site they were found, the temple of Demeter in Sangri, the sanctuary of Dionysus in Iria, Byzantine monasteries and elegant Venetian towers.
